Everyone has a purchase they wish they could take back, even Rory McIlroy. Speaking at the BMW Championship on Wednesday, the five-time major champion revealed that his first PGA Tour paycheck went toward a watch.
“A watch,” McIlroy said, before adding more detail: “With diamonds around it. It was horrific. I can’t believe—it was like the worst purchase ever. It was so bad.”
Pressed on the brand, McIlroy laughed it off: “It’s not the make and model that I’m sponsored by now, so I’m not going to say it.”
McIlroy, now an Omega ambassador and $107 million richer in career PGA Tour earnings, can afford to upgrade his timepiece collection — and keep that first questionable choice buried in the past.
