In the age of viral clips and quick-hit content, it’s easy to assume some of the crazier sports moments you see online are staged. But a new golf video making the rounds appears to be 100% genuine, and it’s left the golf community shaking its collective head.
The short clip shows a young golfer, dressed in a backwards hat and t-shirt, missing a putt. Instead of tapping in like normal, he plants a tee directly into the putting surface, sets a ball on it, and rips a full driver into a nearby grove of trees.

Why It’s a Problem
Veteran golfers in the comments were quick to point out the obvious: damaging greens, slowing down play, and sending a high-speed ball into an unpredictable direction are three major etiquette violations rolled into one. And while it might earn laughs online, it’s the kind of stunt that can get players removed from a course — or worse, cause serious injury.
Viral golf videos often keep the conversation going when the pro circuit is quiet, but this one has brought a rare unanimous verdict from the sport’s online jury: don’t be these guys.
The hope is that the players in the clip get their short burst of Internet fame, then learn a valuable lesson about respect for the game. Because in golf, the line between “fun highlight” and “course ban” is a thin one.
