LIV Golf’s decision to expand to 72-hole events is already delivering measurable results, and nowhere has that impact been more visible than in Adelaide. During Anthony Kim’s dramatic comeback victory, his first professional win in 16 years, South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas confirmed that total four-day attendance at The Grange Golf Club surpassed 115,000 spectators. The figure not only set a new benchmark for LIV Golf but also established a new all-time attendance record for any professional golf event in Australia.

The numbers reveal the scale of the moment. Saturday alone drew more than 38,500 fans, the highest single-day attendance in LIV Golf’s four-plus seasons. That surge of energy helped push the four-day total past 115,000, eclipsing the previous Australian professional golf record of 112,698 set at the 2025 Australian Open at Royal Melbourne.

The milestone is even more striking when viewed in context. The 2026 Adelaide event averaged more than 28,750 fans per day across four rounds. By comparison, the 2025 LIV stop in Adelaide attracted 102,000 fans, averaging roughly 34,000 per day over three rounds. With the addition of a fourth competitive day, the league not only maintained strong per-day turnout but also significantly expanded its total footprint.

Over three years, Adelaide’s cumulative attendance has now climbed past 400,000 spectators, a staggering figure that cements the city as one of LIV Golf’s crown jewel destinations.

A Strategic Shift Paying Immediate Dividends

While some of the growth can be attributed to the expanded 72-hole format, only the league’s second such event, the consistency of turnout suggests more than novelty. The fourth round provided additional drama, additional ticket inventory, and an extended festival atmosphere that appears to have resonated with fans.

Anthony Kim’s comeback victory served as a compelling centerpiece. His charge up the leaderboard to secure his first professional win in 16 years created a storyline that amplified the spectacle. The expanded format allowed the narrative to build over four days, giving fans more time to engage with the competition and heightening the sense of occasion.

The early returns indicate that LIV’s strategic pivot was not merely cosmetic. It enhanced competitive depth while increasing opportunities for commercial and fan engagement, an alignment that leagues constantly seek but rarely achieve so swiftly.

Partnership, Permanence, and What Comes Next

Premier Peter Malinauskas framed the achievement as a point of pride not only for golf fans but for South Australia as a whole. In his statement, he described the event as a showcase for the region and emphasized that the partnership between the state government and LIV Golf continues to strengthen.

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil echoed that long-term optimism. He described the experience at The Grange as “special” and “almost magical,” praising the energy of Australian fans while expressing confidence in the league’s enduring presence in the country. His remarks signaled more than celebration; they suggested permanence.

Change is already scheduled. The tournament will move to Kooyonga Golf Club in March 2027 before transitioning to North Adelaide Golf Course beginning in 2028. The shift reflects a broader vision: rotate premier venues, sustain momentum, and expand the footprint without sacrificing atmosphere.

In Adelaide, the formula has clearly worked. A dramatic victory, a longer format, and record-setting crowds combined to create a defining chapter for LIV Golf, one that suggests its evolution is not only ongoing but accelerating.
