In a world where the line between engineering and artistry grows increasingly blurred, Bettinardi continues to redefine what it means to craft a precision putter. On Tuesday, the company unveiled two new additions to its Antidote series, the SB3 and SB5, each expanding on the low-torque, toe-up philosophy that has made this line increasingly relevant in the modern putting landscape.
SB3: Compact Precision and Clever Alignment
The SB3 introduces a compact fang-style silhouette that balances modern aesthetic with practical alignment. The two-tone visual scheme is more than a cosmetic flourish; it enhances alignment precision. Two white lines flank the fangs, and although the hosel is pulled back behind the top line, Bettinardi smartly engineered it into its own segment, preserving a clean and thin top-line view. This seemingly small detail has a big impact on alignment confidence, especially as you notice how both edges of the top line can work together to verify square face position.
Flip it over, and the sole tells another part of the story. With cutouts in the 303 stainless steel backplate, Bettinardi is clearly moving the CG as far forward as possible to complement their low-torque ethos. The sound at impact? A precise thud-click that delivers clarity without dullness; it’s firm and confident, but not jarring. Fang-style designs often struggle here, yet Bettinardi has struck an impressive balance.
SB5: Unexpected Feel, Unmatched Framing
Yet it was the SB5 that ultimately stole the show. A shape that might seem understated at first—half-moon, muted satin silver, single navy sightline- ends up delivering an unexpectedly striking visual experience. The alignment aids are subtly brilliant. The design creates a natural frame, casting the illusion of light around the flange center, leading the eye down the line of the putt like a laser guide. Function meets form here in a way that feels both intuitive and elegant.
Performance-wise, the SB5 delivers a soft thud with a whisper of click, just enough feedback to know where the ball met the face, with the refinement of a well-struck muscleback iron. The inclusion of Bettinardi’s FIT Face ensures consistent ball speed, without creating that detached feel that sometimes plagues tech-heavy putters. On Quintec, both putters showed excellent roll characteristics with minimal skidding, evidence of the design’s intent made real.
Built for Putter Performance and Personalization
The finishing touch came with a 15-inch grip, offering counterbalance and control. It’s a detail often reserved for custom builds, but here it feels like part of the whole experience, especially for players who prefer a longer grip to stabilize their hands and reduce face rotation.
The Antidote SB3 and SB5 launch officially on December 2nd, with pre-orders already open via Bettinardi and Fairway Jockey. For those who appreciate the fine details, craftsmanship, performance, and a touch of optical genius, this might just be Bettinardi’s most refined expression of the Antidote philosophy yet.
