Tiger Woods has walked the world’s most famous fairways under the brightest lights in golf — but this week, he’s walking for something far more personal.
The 15-time major champion was back on the course on Monday and Tuesday, not as a competitor, but as a father. He is following his son, Charlie Woods, during the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas.
While the younger Woods was chasing birdies, the elder Woods was simply chasing his son, step for step. Yes, Tiger is walking again just months removed from Achilles tendon surgery, and he’s doing it for Charlie.
A Tough Climb for Charlie Woods

Charlie Woods entered the event for the second straight year, but struggled out of the gate. An 11-over 81 in the opening round left him buried under the cut line, which was projected at 2-over. He returned for Round 2, hoping to bounce back, but the early damage sealed his fate in a stacked field of the country’s top junior talent.
The U.S. Junior Amateur is the USGA’s premier stage for boys’ amateur golf. For a 15-year-old still carving out his identity under the weight of the most iconic last name in golf, the experience alone is a victory.
A Father’s Summer on the Sidelines
This latest appearance continues a theme for Tiger this summer: showing up.
On June 5, he watched from a cart as Charlie competed in Florida’s Amateur Championship. Then, on June 24, he was on foot again at Tequesta Country Club in Palm Beach County for the Nicklaus Junior Championship. And now, just four months post-surgery, he’s back on the grass, walking every hole.
It’s a quieter chapter for Tiger — no roars, no green jackets — just a father supporting his son, even as the odds stack up. For now, Charlie’s national title hopes may be done. But with his dad just a few paces away, his future’s still wide open.
