Scheffler's Take On the Tiger Woods Comparisons

Scottie Scheffler just won his fourth major — and the golf world can’t help but whisper Tiger.

After a dominant, four-stroke win at The Open Championship on Sunday, Scheffler left little doubt about who currently owns the throne in professional golf. From the moment he teed off at Royal Portrush, the conversation wasn’t about if he’d win — it was by how much. By the time the final putt dropped, it wasn’t just another victory — it was history in motion.

And naturally, that brought out the comparisons. “He’s doing some Tiger-like stuff,” said Xander Schauffele. Shane Lowry added, “If Scottie’s feet stayed stable and his swing looked like Adam Scott’s, we’d be talking about him in the same words as Tiger Woods.”

Ask Scheffler? He’s not interested in that narrative. “I still think they’re a bit silly,” Scheffler said post-round. “Tiger won, what, 15 majors? This is my fourth. I just got one-fourth of the way there. I think Tiger stands alone in the game of golf.”

Even so, the numbers say something. Scheffler is now just a U.S. Open shy of the career Grand Slam. He’s the only player in the modern era to win his first four majors by three or more strokes. He’s converted 10 straight 54-hole leads — a stat that speaks louder than most quotes ever could.

And the buzz is growing. Rory McIlroy — no stranger to high expectations himself — acknowledged the significance: “In a historical context, you could argue that there’s only maybe two or three players in the history of the game that have been on a run, the one that Scottie’s been on here for the last 24 to 36 months. Incredibly impressive.”

Scheffler, ever stoic, keeps brushing aside the praise. “I don’t focus on that kind of stuff,” he said. “That’s not what motivates me.”

And maybe that’s exactly why he’s getting closer to Tiger territory. He’s not chasing legacy — he’s just playing golf better than anyone on the planet. For now, the golf world may continue to compare, and Scheffler may continue to dismiss.
