He’s World No. 1, fresh off another major win, and—apparently—a scene-stealer in slapstick sports cinema. Scottie Scheffler, fresh from capturing his fourth career major at Royal Portrush, is now adding “comedic breakout” to his résumé in the newly released Happy Gilmore 2, which debuted last week on Netflix.
The film, packed with celebrity cameos, nostalgic nods, and a truckload of absurdity, has quickly become the most talked-about sports comedy of the year. But it’s Scheffler—yes, the real one, playing a fictionalized version of himself—who delivered one of the movie’s most unforgettable moments.
And if you ask Justin Thomas, the “bad news” is that Scheffler’s now winning on screen, too.
Scheffler’s Surprise Role: Calm Golfer, Sudden Brawler

In the sequel’s second act, Scheffler appears in multiple scenes playing himself with a twist. Known in real life for his even-tempered demeanor, Scheffler flips the script by asking Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler, back in full form) how to handle trash talk and physical confrontations on the course.
Happy, of course, gives him his trademark chaotic advice. And the next thing you know? Scheffler decks a fictional rival golfer—Harley, played by Oliver Hudson—in a full-on hockey-style brawl.
Then comes the kicker: he gets arrested.
“Not again,” Scheffler says as he’s cuffed, a perfectly timed reference to his real-life 2024 arrest outside Valhalla at the PGA Championship—a moment that, even then, felt pulled from a movie. Now? It is one.
His final scene has him slumped in a jail cell, watching Happy win the tournament on a grainy jail TV, while fellow inmates celebrate.
It’s a rare blend of self-awareness, self-deprecation, and sheer comic timing—and fans (and fellow pros) are loving it.
Justin Thomas Weighs In: “The Guy Can’t Miss Right Now”
Justin Thomas, who also makes a cameo in the film, took to Instagram to poke fun at his buddy’s dominance.
“I’ve got some good news and bad news,” Thomas wrote. “The good news is I actually think the golfers did pretty well in HG2! Bad news… it appears @scottie.scheffler won again. The guy can’t miss right now 😂”
The post came with a behind-the-scenes clip of Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Nelly Korda, Bryson DeChambeau, and Paige Spiranac, all hamming it up on set.
The Cast Is Stacked
The sequel, set nearly 30 years after the original, reunites Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller alongside Sandler, while introducing a rotating door of sports and entertainment stars.
Among them: Bad Bunny as Happy’s new caddie, Eminem, Travis Kelce, Post Malone, and a full tee sheet of pro golfers including Brooks Koepka, Will Zalatoris, McIlroy, DeChambeau, Thomas, and—of course—Scheffler.
A Career on Fire, On and Off the Course
Scheffler’s cameo drops just days after his real-life fourth major win, putting him in legendary company with Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player as the only men to win the Masters, PGA Championship, and Open Championship before age 30. And now? He’s making headlines on Netflix, too.
The golf world is catching on: this isn’t just a hot streak—it’s the beginning of a reign. And while Thomas’s jab was all in good fun, his message was clear: Scheffler can’t miss right now, even in Hollywood.
