Let’s talk about a Sunday charge at The Open that flew way under the radar, but might’ve just changed the U.S. Ryder Cup picture for good.
While everyone was locked in on Scottie Scheffler lifting another major trophy at Royal Portrush, Bryson DeChambeau was out there putting on a clinic.
After a disastrous 78 on Thursday, Bryson ripped off rounds of 65, 68, and a 64 on Sunday — the lowest final round in the field. That late surge catapulted him into a tie for 10th, marking just his second career top-10 at The Open and arguably one of the most impressive comebacks of the week.
All of that being said, the interesting thing is what happened to Bryson off the course.
Captain’s Call: Bryson Is In

Sports Illustrated dropped the news that U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley has already locked in DeChambeau for Bethpage Black this September — no matter where he finishes in the points standings.
🚨🇺🇸🏆 JUST IN: U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley confirmed to @SI_Golf that Bryson DeChambeau will be on the team at Bethpage: “Bryson is going to be a very important piece to us winning the Ryder Cup….He brings so much. He brings energy, passion but most importantly, he’s… pic.twitter.com/nx1RAfnr04

“Bryson is going to be a very important piece to us winning the Ryder Cup,” Bradley said in a text. “He brings energy, passion, but most importantly, he’s one of the best players on the planet.”
And let’s be clear — this isn’t lip service. This is a guarantee. Despite playing on the LIV circuit, where he can’t earn Ryder Cup points, Bryson still sits fifth in the standings right now. With four events left for PGA Tour players to pass him, his position will likely slip… but it won’t matter. Bradley is making the call early, and he’s standing by it.
Bryson’s Body of Work Speaks Loudly

Let’s look at the resume. Bryson DeChambeau hasn’t won a major this season, but he’s been right there every time it counted:
- T5 at the Masters
- Runner-up at the PGA Championship
- LIV Golf win in Korea
- Multiple top-10s across majors and LIV events
That’s not a fluke — that’s form. It’s not just about ball speed and big drives. Bryson’s short game has been dialed in, his putting has been solid, and he’s showing the kind of grit that Ryder Cup legends are made of.
Bradley’s doing more than just texting picks — he’s bringing the history with him. At Portrush, Keegan reportedly handed out photos and notes to potential Ryder Cuppers, including one image of Justin Leonard’s iconic 1999 putt at Brookline. If that doesn’t give you chills, you might want to check your pulse.
Bryson + Bethpage = Box Office
Let’s not forget where this Ryder Cup is being held: Bethpage Black — New York, rowdy, in-your-face golf energy. That’s not just Bryson’s wheelhouse. That’s his natural habitat.
Love him or love to hate him, Bryson brings electricity. He’s a disruptor. He feeds off crowds, plays with swagger, and wants the big stage. And Bradley knows it. This isn’t a polite, play-it-safe roster move. This is a statement.
Bryson DeChambeau said he hopes to bring a "tsunami" of a crowd to Bethpage to cheer on Team USA at the Ryder Cup.

He also shared that Keegan Bradley left a message in players' lockers.

So yeah, Bryson DeChambeau is back on Team USA. Not maybe. Not probably. Definitely. And come September, he’s going to be right in the middle of the biggest show in golf — with the stars and stripes on his sleeve and a whole lot of New York attitude behind him.
