LIV Golf continues its disruptive march through the professional golf landscape and may be nearing another seismic tremor.

According to reports, Si Woo Kim, the four-time PGA Tour winner and stalwart of the International Presidents Cup team, is in late-stage negotiations to join LIV Golf. If the deal closes, Kim would be the league’s most significant acquisition since the dramatic additions of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton. This wouldn’t just be a headline-making pickup; it would be a blow felt across two tours and an international team.

and Tyrrell Hatton. This wouldn’t just be a headline-making pickup; it would be a blow felt across two tours and an international team.

Kim, ranked 47th in the Official World Golf Ranking, capped off a strong 2025 season with a T-4 finish at the RSM Classic. With 300 PGA Tour starts to his name and a résumé that includes a Players Championship win, the 30-year-old brings consistency, visibility, and competitive firepower. He also brings institutional weight: a three-time Presidents Cup competitor and one of South Korea’s top representatives in the sport.

The Presidents Cup Faces Yet Another Blow to International Team Depth

For the PGA Tour and the Presidents Cup International team, this isn’t a scratch; it’s another slow bleed. First, Cam Smith. Then Mito Pereira and Joaquín Niemann. Now, possibly, Kim. If the Presidents Cup field thins further, it raises difficult questions about the event’s future competitive depth, which already struggles to match the Ryder Cup’s firepower.

As for LIV, Kim would slot neatly into Kevin Na’s Iron Heads GC, fortifying the only team built around Korean identity. This move would also sharpen the league’s appeal in Asia, a strategic market LIV flirted with in 2025 by hosting an event in South Korea but appears to be stepping back from in 2026, at least for now.

A 14th Team? LIV Golf Roster Expansion Points to Bigger Plans

It’s also a signal of growing momentum. Victor Perez and Laurie Canter joined the league earlier this offseason, but neither matches Kim in stature. If finalized, Kim’s signing would mark the third player to replace one of the six relegated names from 2025. With two spots filled through the Asian Tour’s International Series and two more to be awarded via the Promotions Event next month, the 2026 LIV Golf season could feature at least seven new faces, and potentially a 14th team.

All of this paints a clear picture: LIV Golf is not done evolving. Each signing reshapes the narrative. With Kim, it’s not just about a player. It’s about market influence, international leverage, and strategic depth. If he joins, LIV doesn’t just add another name; it sharpens its blade.
