The new golf season is upon us, and with it comes the thrill of potential, those players poised on the edge of breakout stardom, ready to vault from promise to proof. Last year, our radar was sharp. Karl Vilips, Aldrich Potgieter, and William Mouw each seized victories on the PGA Tour. Johnny Keefer topped the Korn Ferry Tour, and Christo Lamprecht, Kensei Hirata, and Josele Ballester (who jumped to LIV and took the Saudi International) all made meaningful moves. In short, the forecast held. But as always, the landscape shifts and so does the field. Here are our top 10 young stars to keep an eye on this year.
College Stars Ready for Liftoff
Starting the top 10, at No. 10, Ben James headlines college golf and seems destined for a strong post-grad springboard, if the putter cooperates. Just ahead of him, Gordon Sargent is still looking to match pro results with his immense amateur reputation. At No. 8, Nick Gabrelcik has found stability on the Korn Ferry Tour, though he needs a clear statistical edge to distinguish himself.
Cole Sherwood (No. 7) brings both confidence and the flat stick, but streaky form remains his hurdle. Barend Botha (No. 6) is a ball-striker with steel under pressure; his runner-up at the KFT Championship showed that. At No. 5, Adrien Dumont de Chassart returns to the PGA Tour with flashes of brilliance and a short game that, if harnessed, can carry him further than ever before.
Teen Phenoms and Rising Pros Are Closing In
The top four signal something special. Jackson Koivun (No. 4) may be the most complete college prospect since Åberg, already posting high PGA Tour finishes and closing in on his Accelerated card. David Ford (No. 3) dazzled in his rookie year off the tee; if the putter wakes up, he’s a winner in waiting. Blades Brown (No. 2) is only 18 but has already secured full Korn Ferry status; his scoring instincts are mature beyond his years.
Wenyi Ding: The Surest Bet of the Top 10
And at No. 1: Wenyi Ding. If there’s a can’t-miss breakout, it’s him. Tall, powerful, confident, and already contending deep into weekends. His trajectory points unmistakably toward a DP World Tour victory in 2026, possibly more.
Breakouts aren’t just about rankings or results; they’re about moments. The 2026 season promises them in spades. Watch closely. One of these names may just be the story of the year.
