LIV golfer Thomas Detry has publicly called out a “rat” inside the player group chat who keeps leaking confidential info to the media. This isn’t just gossip; it’s a direct hit on the league’s internal culture. While the previously Saudi-backed league struggles with cash flow and ratings, a snitch is making things worse. Detry spoke to Ben Parsons at Today’s Golfer and did not hold back on his frustration with the betrayal.
The Leak Problem
Detry believes someone is selling out his fellow pros to keep the news cycle moving. “Scott [O’Neil] keeps communications very open,” Detry said regarding the LIV CEO. “We’ve got a player group chat. It seems like there’s a rat in there.” The Belgian star admits it is hard to keep secrets when a mole is likely sharing every word.
He noted that “most of the stuff is being released out there all the time, quite quickly.” This behavior undermines the team dynamic and hurts the players trying to navigate a changing golf world. Detry insists that while the leaks aren’t game-changing, the act of betrayal itself is not fun to know.
Uncertain Future for Detry
With the BMW PGA Championship underway, Detry is one of many LIV pros teeing off this week at the DP World Tour’s flagship event. Despite calling 2026 “one of the best years” of his life, the Belgian is unsure about what’s next for his game. The financial instability of LIV has left players in limbo regarding their careers. “I would love to stay. I really enjoy LIV,” he continued. But the fear of fines in Europe and the shifting ecosystem makes him hesitant.
