The two-time major champion announced that he has been medically cleared to resume all golf activity following a microdiscectomy performed in mid-November 2025. The procedure came just weeks after Thomas competed for the U.S. Ryder Cup team at Bethpage Black, marking a physically demanding stretch that ultimately required surgical intervention.

“After some follow-up imaging and meeting with my Dr and team, I’m officially cleared for all golf activity,” Justin Thomas shared on Instagram. “It feels great to be swinging freely again and getting some reps in on the course.”

For Thomas, the clearance represents more than a medical update; it signals the final phase of a carefully managed recovery process. In January, he revealed that his rehabilitation focused on incremental gains: rebuilding strength in the gym, easing back into wedge and short-iron work, and prioritizing patience over urgency. That steady approach now appears to have paid off.

Florida Swing Emerging as Targeted Return

The Florida Swing is emerging as the likely target for his competitive return. With high-profile events clustered in a pivotal stretch of the PGA Tour calendar, the timing offers both opportunity and strategic importance. Thomas emphasized that regaining full fitness before stepping back into competition remains the priority, underscoring his intent to build stamina before testing himself against the world’s best.

His absence has been notable. Thomas’ last start came at the 2025 Procore Championship, a FedEx Cup Fall event that also served as a preparatory stage for Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley’s squad. Since then, the 16-time PGA Tour winner has focused entirely on recovery, opting for discipline over haste as he rebuilds his game from the ground up.

Momentum Building After Career Resurgence

The comeback attempt follows a significant 2025 season for Thomas. Earlier in the year, he snapped a winless drought that dated back to the 2022 PGA Championship. His playoff victory over Andrew Novak at the RBC Heritage, claimed just one week after the Masters, reasserted his place among the game’s elite and reaffirmed his ability to close under pressure.

Currently ranked No. 12 in the Official World Golf Rankings, Thomas remains firmly positioned inside the sport’s upper tier. Now, with medical clearance secured and competitive ambitions set on Florida, the next chapter begins. Thomas has made it clear that the goal is not merely to return, but to move forward without limitation. As he builds strength, regains rhythm, and prepares for tournament play, the PGA Tour’s landscape could soon feature one of its most recognizable contenders back at full force.
