Collin Morikawa Picks New Caddie Before Scottish Open

The caddie carousel keeps spinning for Collin Morikawa — and this time, it’s stopped on one of the most seasoned names in the game.

Veteran loop Billy Foster will be on Morikawa’s bag this week at the Genesis Scottish Open, per a post Monday by the DP World Tour on X. Foster, whose résumé reads like a Hall of Fame induction speech, has caddied for legends like Seve Ballesteros, Darren Clarke, Thomas Bjørn, and most recently Matt Fitzpatrick — with whom he won the 2022 U.S. Open.

Now, the 28-year-old Morikawa is a two-time major winner himself. He becomes the next high-profile player to call on Foster’s expertise as he continues his pursuit of consistency and another trophy in 2024.

This latest move marks yet another chapter in Morikawa’s evolving search for the right on-course partnership. After beginning his pro career with JJ Jakovac — a duo that netted a Claret Jug and a PGA Championship — the two split earlier this year after nearly five years together.

Since then, Morikawa briefly teamed with Joe Greiner, fresh off his split from Max Homa, and leaned on his former Cal teammate KK Limbhasut for a fill-in role at last month’s Rocket Classic. When asked there about his caddie plans for the Scottish Open, Morikawa admitted he wasn’t sure. Now he’s sure — and he’s swinging big.

Solid Season, But Still Winless in 2024

Despite a strong stat sheet — 10 top-25 finishes in 14 starts, including runner-up showings at The Sentry and the Arnold Palmer Invitational — Morikawa is still chasing his first PGA TOUR win since the 2023 Baycurrent Classic. He currently sits at No. 15 in the FedExCup standings.

He’s familiar with success on Scottish soil. Last year, he finished fourth at the Genesis Scottish Open, and of course, he claimed his first Open Championship title in 2021 on links turf.

With two majors under his belt and another Open looming next week at Royal Portrush, the timing of bringing in Foster feels far from accidental. He’s a links-savvy, big-stage veteran. Foster is known for his fiery edge and encyclopedic course knowledge. He could provide the perfect spark for Morikawa as he heads into back-to-back weeks of links golf.

For Foster, it’s a return to top-tier contention after parting ways with Fitzpatrick earlier this year at THE PLAYERS. For Morikawa, it’s about more than steady hands. It’s about rekindling that edge that made him one of golf’s fastest-rising stars.
