Bryson DeChambeau Weighs Options Beyond LIV Golf

Date:

Bryson DeChambeau is looking beyond the current LIV Golf structure as the league faces a major business overhaul. The two-time major champion has been linked to more starts on the DP World Tour, signaling a potential shift in his competitive schedule.

While he remains under contract, the uncertainty surrounding the league’s future has opened the door for other options. This includes a confirmed appearance in South Africa later this year and a serious push to grow his digital media presence if the tour model changes.

The situation is fluid, with several high-profile players making moves to secure their futures. Jon Rahm has already stated he will not participate in the proposed LIV 2.0 plan, and Sergio Garcia was granted a release from his contract earlier this week.

Golf Channel reported that John Beck, representing Rahm, stated at a bankruptcy hearing that Rahm had “independently reviewed the proposed terms of LIV 2.0” and deemed them “unacceptable to him.” This leaves DeChambeau as a key figure whose decision could define the new league.

Reports from The Telegraph indicate that DeChambeau’s team has contacted DP World Tour officials to discuss potential tournament appearances in 2027. Late last month, golf insider Alan Shipnuck noted that DeChambeau continued to consider his options.

Unlike Patrick Reed, who joined the European tour when he departed LIV at the start of 2026, this American is not seeking full membership on that circuit. Instead, he appears to be looking for specific starts rather than a full roster commitment.

DeChambeau has also been vocal about his business ventures. Stating in May 2026 to Golf Channel that he aimed to triple his YouTube audience should LIV Golf fail to continue. At the time, his channel had approximately 2.69 million subscribers.

He mentioned plans to expand videos into additional languages to reach a global audience. An interview from 2025 disclosed his investment of over $1 million in his YouTube operation, demonstrating a serious commitment to this alternative revenue stream.

The most concrete step away from the current LIV model is his scheduled participation in the Nedbank Golf Challenge. The DP World Tour confirmed DeChambeau’s entry in August. From December 3 to 6, 2026, he will compete at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, South Africa. This event provides a guaranteed competitive platform outside the LIV circuit before the end of the 2026 season. It serves as a clear indicator that he is keeping his options open while the league’s future remains unclear.

The Path Forward for the American Star

The landscape for elite golfers is shifting rapidly as players evaluate their long-term careers. DeChambeau’s hesitation to commit to LIV 2.0 mirrors the sentiment of other top players who are wary of the league’s restructuring. The DP World Tour is increasingly positioning itself as a lifeline for those seeking an exit. While DeChambeau has not announced a permanent departure, his actions speak to a desire for flexibility.

His strategy seems to focus on maintaining high-level competition through select events while building a media empire that does not rely on a single tour. This dual approach allows him to stay relevant in the sport regardless of how the business side resolves.

The investment in YouTube suggests he is preparing for a future where his audience might be more valuable than his tournament purse. If LIV 2.0 fails to secure enough players with outstanding financial claims, the pressure on DeChambeau to make a final choice will only increase.

Confirmed Schedule and Next Steps

For now, the focus remains on the upcoming tournament in South Africa. The Nedbank Golf Challenge runs from December 3 to 6, 2026, offering a clear date for fans to watch DeChambeau in action outside the LIV framework.

This appearance was confirmed by the DP World Tour in August and stands as the only fixed competitive commitment outside the league at this moment. Any further moves will likely depend on how the bankruptcy proceedings and the LIV 2.0 deadline unfold.
