Tiger Woods stepped back onto American soil this week after completing an intensive rehabilitation program in Switzerland, and almost immediately, a major opening emerged for the golf legend as questions continue to swirl around his future in the sport.
The 15-time major champion had spent the last 40 days receiving treatment in Zurich following his DUI arrest earlier this year in Jupiter, Florida. Woods was taken into custody after a crash near his home, where authorities said they discovered prescription opioid pills in his possession. The golfer later admitted he had been relying on pain medication to cope with chronic injuries that had plagued him for years.
On Wednesday, Woods’ private jet landed in the United States before he was seen leaving Palm Beach International Airport. The sighting marked the first public glimpse of Woods since entering rehab, and it came at a time when speculation had intensified over whether he still intends to compete professionally.
Furyk Extends An Invitation
US Ryder Cup captain Jim Furyk made it clear he wants Woods involved with Team USA for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland. While Furyk stopped short of defining a specific role, his comments sent a strong signal that Woods remains a respected and valued figure inside American golf despite the latest controversy surrounding his personal life.
“We haven’t spoken yet,” Furyk explained, noting he intentionally avoided contacting Woods during his recovery out of respect for his health and family situation.
“But I will,” Furyk added. “Definitely. We’ll see where that role may fall.”
Furyk praised Woods’ leadership and influence during previous Ryder Cup appearances, particularly when Woods served in advisory and vice-captain roles.
“I enjoyed serving as a vice-captain with him a number of times,” Furyk said. “I think he brought a lot to the team room and a lot of knowledge and a lot of experience.”

Deputies reported signs of impairment and found pain pills in his pocket. Although Woods passed a breathalyzer test, he refused a urine test.
The golfer has pleaded not guilty to DUI charges. Prosecutors recently received permission to access his medical records as part of the case, though the documents will remain sealed from public view.
